Creamy onion soup

2 onions, finely chopped
1 potato, peeled and diced
45 ml butter
500 ml milk OR
250 ml milk and
250 ml cream
250 ml vegetable stock
1 bay leaf
salt and white pepper to taste

Slowly sauté the onions and potato in the butter until the onions are soft and transparent. Add the remaining ingredients, except the salt and pepper.
Bring to the boil, cover and simmer gently for about 20 minutes.
