6 fresh peaches pitted, skinned and sliced (410 g tin peach slices, drained),
1 1/2 cup sugar (3/4 cup if you use tinned peaches),
2 tablespoons flour,
1/2 cup butter, melted,
125 ml milk,
5 slices white bread.
Preheat oven (180*C). Butter an 8-inch square baking dish. Cut crusts from bread slices and cut each into 4 or 5 strips. Spread fruit into prepared pan and cover with a layer of bread strips. Beat together butter, sugar, salt and flour; mix in egg and milk/fruit syrup. Pour mixture over the fruit and bread. Bake 35 to 45 min. until golden brown.
